Forgot the router background login password? Three tricks teach you to find it back, no need to reset!
the login address is incorrect, and the password cannot be remembered; I pressed the reset button and was afraid of losing the configuration; I searched all over the chat history but couldn't find it...... This is a dilemma that many people have encountered.
this article gives three paths, in order of recommendation, Reset is the last option , unless you really have no other choice.
1. Try common default passwords
many routers have not changed their factory passwords, check this first:
Note: many routers now have the default password WiFi password if you have changed the WiFi password but did not change the background password separately, you can try the current WiFi password.
2. Try to log in to the background with WiFi password
this is the common logic of current mainstream routers (Xiaomi, Huawei, Honor, etc.) - background login passwords and WiFi passwords are the same .
Operation Method:
- check the WiFi password currently connected to your phone/computer (Phone: View in Saved WiFi Information)
- enter on the login page:
- Username:
admin - Password: Enter your current WiFi password
- Username:
- if you have changed your WiFi password but not your background password, this usually works
3. Retrieve or reset the password through the manufacturer's app
most routers now have companion apps, which can be managed directly through mobile phones, without the need to remember IP and password.
Xiaomi/Redmi → Mijia App
- make sure your phone is connected to the router WiFi
- open the Mijia App and find the corresponding router device
- click to enter the → settings → administrator password → can be directly modified or viewed (some versions support biometric passwordless entry)
Huawei → Smart Life App
- Log in to your HUAWEI account and bind your router
- can directly enter the management interface in the app, without entering the router background password
- need to change: Set a → admin password
TP-Link → TP-Link Tether App
- You can also manage devices directly within
- App, bypassing forgotten web passwords
4. Last resort: Reset factory reset
If none of the above three paths work, you can only take the last step - restore the factory settings . But be aware of the cost.
Operation:
- the router is powered on, locate the Reset hole
- press and hold with a clip/paper clip for about 8~10 seconds
- wait for the lights to turn off and release it, and the router will automatically restart When the
- indicator light turns solid blue/green, log in with the default address and default password
Reset:
- ❌
- PPPoE Broadband Account Password (needs to be refilled) ❌
- Advanced settings like port forwarding, DDNS, VPN, and more ❌
- Customize firewall rules ❌
- Static IP configuration ✅
- WiFi name and password (some routers keep it)
Reset:
open the router background, go to " System Settings → Change Administrator Password " as soon as possible, change the default password, and change the WiFi password by the way.
