After the router is restarted, the WAN port cannot be dialed and the connection is always displayed

sent the scholar and official, but the 11111 router rebooted, and the WAN port kept showing "connecting" or "disconnected", and the broadband dialing failed?
computer can connect directly to the Internet Cat, but not the router?

the troubleshooting logic of this kind of PPPoE dialing problem is very clear, just do it in order.

Problem Diagnosis: What are the common reasons why the WAN port cannot be dialed?

first look at the error message in the background of the router, there are three common ones:

After the router is restarted, the WAN port cannot be dialed and the connection is always displayed

Common Causes (sorted by frequency):

  • PPPoE Wrong account password input - Most commonly, the order given by the operator is easily confused
  • the optical cat is changed to routing mode, the router cannot be dialed - the optical cat has been dialed, and there is no signal on the WAN port
  • network cable connected to the wrong port - The WAN port must be connected to the optical cat LAN1 (some optical cats have multiple LANs)
  • carrier binds MAC address - re-authentication is required after changing routers
  • the optical cat or the broadband itself is faulty - troubleshoot this first and then toss the router

Solution

Option 1: Confirm the account password (number one reason)

most cases where the number cannot be dialed is due to the wrong account or password.

How do I find the right PPPoE account and password?

  1. find the installation work order given by the operator

    • the piece of paper left by the master during the installation of broadband, it is usually pasted on the optical cat or in the delivery list
    • format is usually: username (mobile phone number@adsl) / password (8 digits)
  2. check the cat background

Enter the optical cat address (usually 192.168.1.1)
    • browser
    • log in and find "Network"→"Broadband Settings→ "Internet"
    • account is usually visible, and passwords are usually displayed as ******** (masks)
    • some optical cats have a "Show Password" button, which can be seen by clicking on it
  3. call the operator's customer service

    • Move: 10086 | Unicom: 10010 | Telecom: 10000
    • provide the owner's name and the last 6 digits of the ID card, and the customer service can reset the password
    • password will send text messages, and it is recommended to change it immediately after resetting

How do I enter my account password correctly in the router?

  1. Log in to the router background
  2. find "WAN Port Settings" or "Internet Settings"
  3. Connection Type Selection: PPPoE
  4. account: Enter your full username (including @adsl or @whatever suffix)
  5. Password: Enter your password, paying attention to the case and case (carrier passwords are usually full of numbers)
  6. click "Connect" or "Save"
💡

common mistake : @adsl suffix is missing from the back of the account. The common format for mobile is mobile phone number @adsl, China Unicom is mobile phone number @unicom, and China Telecom is mobile phone number@adsl or direct mobile phone number.

Pit:

  • Don't add spaces in the account input box
  • Do not copy-paste accounts with hidden characters (manually delete the spaces before and after pasting)
  • Do not add quotation marks when the password is full numbers, the router will use the quotation marks as part of the password

Option 2: Check the Lightcat Working Mode (easiest to ignore)

Lightcat has two working modes:

✅ ❌
Mode performance result
Bridge (bridged) mode optical cat is only responsible for photoelectric conversion, router dialing is required The router can dial normally
Route (Routing) Mode Guangmao dialed the number himself, and WAN got the intranet IP The router can no longer dial
How

tell what mode is Lightcat?

  1. Log in to the Optical Cat Background (192.168.1.1 or 192.168.100.1)
  2. find "Network" → "Broadband Settings"
  3. look at "Connection Mode" or "Work Mode":
    • shows Bridge → is OK, and the router is responsible for dialing
    • shows Route / PPPoE / Routing → The optical cat has dialed, and the router's WAN port gets the private IP (usually 192.168.1.x)
What should I do if

the light cat is a routing mode?

Method A: Change to bridging mode (recommended, most correct)

  1. log in to the backend of Lightcat
  2. find "Network" → "Broadband Settings"
  3. delete the original PPPoE connection
  4. create a new connection, the mode changes to Bridge (or IPoE)
  5. save, restart the light cat
  6. the router's WAN port is connected to the optical cat LAN1, and the router starts dialing
⚠️

note : Some operators have turned off the bridge function, which requires an installation and maintenance master to change it. If you ask customer service to change, remember to explain "change bridge".

Method B: The optical cat does not change, and the router changes to AP mode

  1. find "Working Mode" in the background of your router
  2. switch to "AP Mode" or "Bridge Mode"
  3. turn off your router's DHCP server
  4. optical cat is responsible for dialing and assigning IPs, and the router is only responsible for transmitting WiFi

Scenario 3: Check the network cable and optical cat LAN port

Troubleshoot physical layer problems.

Step 1: Make sure the network cable is plugged into the right port

light cats usually have multiple LAN ports, but broadband dial is only available with LAN1:

  • LAN1 → IPTV + Broadband (this is the output port for routing mode)
  • LAN2/LAN3 → may only have the network, no broadband VLAN
  • network cable type → confirm that it is Cat5e or above (more than 100 gigabit broadband required)

Step 2: Testnet cable

  1. unplug the network cable connected to the router's WAN port
  2. plug directly into the computer network port
  3. Set up broadband dial
  4. your PC (Windows Control Panel → network and Internet → broadband connections)
  5. enter your account password to see if you can dial in
  6. if the computer can dial in the → network cable and the optical cat is fine, the problem is with the router
  7. if the computer is not dialing up to → light cat or there is a problem with the broadband itself

Avoid pitfalls:

  • Do not plug the WAN port and LAN port backwards (a common offense for novices)
  • Don't use too poor network cables (network cables below 30 yuan are easy to have problems)
  • Some LAN1 of optical cats is dedicated to IPTV, which is different from LAN2/3 functions

Scenario 4: Clone MAC address (carrier-bound MAC)

some carriers (especially China Mobile and China Telecom/Unicom in some regions) bind the MAC address of the device for the first dialing, which needs to be unbound after changing the router.

How do

clone MAC?

  1. on your computer, dial up once with your old router (have the MAC registered by your carrier)
  2. Or: Find the "MAC Address Clone" option in your new router
  3. enter the WAN port MAC (or computer network port MAC) of the old router
  4. retry dialing after saving

How to check the MAC of the router WAN port?

  • Method A: The label on the back of the router says MAC
  • Method B: Router background → system status → WAN port information → MAC address
  • Method C: Command line ipconfig /all to check the physical address

Scenario 5: Contact the operator to confirm the fault

If all of the above is checked or not, it is most likely a problem on the operator's side.

self-check first:

    Is the
  • light cat PON light always on? (LOS red light → light signal is broken)
  • Is the entire building or community disconnected on a large scale? (Ask the neighbors)
  • just overdue? (Most easily overlooked)
What to say when

report a disability:

"Router WAN port PPPoE dialing failed, error code 691 (or other), the computer can connect directly to the Internet / cannot access the Internet, optical cat model xxx, router model xxx. 」

final reminder

  • account with suffix (@ADSL/@xxx) is the most common missing field
  • the lightcat routing pattern is the most overlooked
  • Before
  • switching routers, it's best to save a screenshot of your original account password
  • **Arrears are the most hidden "faults"**, wait 5 minutes after recharging and try again

number cannot be dialed = account/password, optical cat mode, physical connection, one of three things. Check in order, don't skip steps.
