How to check the Xiaomi router model? Breaking it down into AX, BE, CR, and Pro, the AX3000 is actually three machines

How to identify Xiaomi router models: AX prefix indicates WiFi generation, 3000 is the total wireless speed, T is the product line marker, and CR starts with carrier custom versions

Uncle San's 4A gigabit version has been used smoothly for over half a year. His colleague Lao Song heard about it and asked me to help pick a second-hand Xiaomi for just a hundred Mbps, saying that 300Mbps broadband at home is enough. I searched for "Xiaomi router AX3000" on Xianyu, and the results left him stunned: Redmi AX3000 sells for 130 yuan, CR8809 sells for 95 yuan, Xiaomi AX3000T sells for 140 to 260 yuan, and there's even a WR30U mixed in for 80 yuan. Old Song asked: Aren't these all AX3000? Why is the difference more than double?

I said, don't look at it that way. These names hide three completely different machines, with two letters indicating carrier-customized machines. In this article, I've broken down the letters and numbers in Xiaomi router models one by one. After reading, you'll be able to match the numbers yourself.

prefixes first recognize generational differences: AX, BE, AC differ by a whole generation

The first two letters of

model are the WiFi generational marker, which is the WiFi Alliance's naming convention and is universal across the industry: AC stands for WiFi 5, AX for WiFi 6, and BE for WiFi7. The generation of your phone at home depends on whether the router should at least keep up. The phone is AX (Android and iPhone have basically been the same in the past five years). If you buy an older machine starting with AC, the speed limit is directly locked at WiFi 5.

The string of numbers after the letter

is the sum of the wireless speeds of two frequency bands, measured in Mbps. The AX3000 is a 2.4G 574 plus a 5G 2402, making about 3000; the AX6000 is 574 plus 4804, totaling 5378, and with 4K QAM full-power caliber, rounding it up to 6000. I calculated this naming in the of selling the AX6000 in . So this number doesn't directly correspond to your broadband megabytes—300 Mbps broadband with AX3000 is more than enough, gigabit broadband with AX3000 is just right, but what actually lags you is the actual loss of the network port and WiFi.

a reminder not to be fooled by numbers: the AX9000's 9000 isn't three times faster than the AX3000. Actual speed depends on frequency bands, antennas, and which level your phone supports. The numbers are just labels; if you really want to compare the speeds of two 5G bands, it's fair to compare them separately.

are all called AX3000, but in fact, there are three machines

This is the most common pitfall when buying used Xiaomi, so I'll highlight it separately. The four names mentioned earlier correspond to each other like this

What is
name platform second-hand price
Redmi's AX30002022 Retail Edition Qualcomm IPQ5000130
CR8809/8808/8806 Carrier-customized version of the Redmi AX3000 about IPQ500095 same model
Xiaomi AX3000T (old version) Another new phone in 2023 MediaTek MT7981140 to 260
Xiaomi AX3000T (new V3) In 2025 the batch that secretly replaced the chip was restored to Qualcomm IPQ5018 around 30% off

CR these three letters are the carrier's custom mark: CR8806 is the Unicom version, CR8808 is the mobile version, CR8809 is the Telecom version, the hardware is basically the same as the retail Redmi AX3000, but the factory system is fixed with carrier configurations. If you want the Mi Home Family, you have to flash the official firmware version. I wrote about this step in CR8809 . There's a hidden pitfall for the custom version: the CR8808 comes with two motherboards: M79 and M81. After flashing the M79 reference version, the 2.4G power is halved, so you have to ask the seller to take a photo of the motherboard before buying.

Xiaomi AX3000T is a new device released in August 2023, and although it shares the same name as the Redmi AX3000, it actually offers two completely different solutions. What's even more complicated is AX3000T I changed my chip once in 2025. The old SN code with 49850 was from MediaTek, while the new version with 64595 was from Qualcomm. The flashing ecosystem is completely different. I wrote detailed verification methods in my about using it for two years in AX3000T. So the price difference Lao Song sees isn't just sellers making random claims, but the real market for four machines.

suffixes T, Pro, mini: no official definition, but there is a pattern

Let me be honest first: Xiaomi has never explained what these suffixes refer to as abbreviations. I searched the official FAQ and help documents but couldn't find any explanation. But from the product lines in recent years, you can see patterns.

T this suffix marks the new generation entry-level model, not an upgrade. AX3000T released a year later than the Redmi AX3000, but in terms of specs, it's not a "T = enhanced version"—the old version with the MediaTek MT7981 actually performed well, while the new version switched back to Qualcomm and reduced the NPU. There are also AX1500 and AX1500T with the same name, which are also two machines. Don't rush to think it's advanced when you see T; first use the method from the previous section to check the platform.

Pro is the real with added ingredients. The BE3600 Pro has an extra central gateway and twice the memory compared to the standard BE3600, allowing you to directly carry Bluetooth sub-devices. Whether this difference is worth the hundred yuan depends on whether your home has the Mijia ecosystem. I recommend reading the central gateway article first before deciding. The BE3600 itself comes in three batches: white 2.5G, white Gigabit version, and black downgrade version. The model numbers RD15 and RD16 have different hardware, and the pitfalls are listed in BE3600 .

mini is a legacy of streamlined from history. The old names like Xiaomi Router Mini and Pro were from 2014 to 2016, and now only second-hand circulation exists. You may also encounter models starting with RB01 or RB03—these are not the product names on the sticker, but the internal numbers in the firmware file. The firmware for the Redmi AX6S is called miwifi_rb03, and the corresponding overseas version is Xiaomi AX3200 (RB01). Both devices have the same hardware and flash packages but are not interchangeable. I've encountered this pitfall, which I wrote about in the of the Redmi AX6S.

Same Name and Generation Swapped Chips: SN Code and Hardware Version Are the Real Cards

Even if you match

models, it's not the end; Xiaomi even has hardware versions within the same model. 4A I wrote about that 4A 100Mbps and gigabit versions look exactly the same, but you can't tell them apart by signal strength. The only options are to check the bottom panel label and plug in the network cable to check the negotiated speed; The Gigabit version is divided into V1 and V2 hardware generations, and the flash packages are not interchangeable; if you flash the wrong device, it becomes bricked.

so when buying a used Xiaomi, negotiate the price and have the seller do three things first: take a photo of the full bottom shell sticker, get a photo of the first five digits of the SN code, and take a screenshot of the backend system status page. The first five digits of SN are shown in the table above AX3000T to check batch status. The backend status page can confirm firmware version and whether the machine has been flashed. If the seller says "the sticker is worn off," no matter how cheap this machine is, be extra cautious—the sticker has a default password and LOD, so a custom phone without the sticker will probably have been flashed with firmware for who knows how many times.

forgot what SN code, hardware version, and model triple code relate to. You can check model and hardware version where to find article, which contains the entry paths to the backend for five brands.

model number check in three places—don't just trust the seller's words

the first entry point is the bottom shell sticker , which is the most accurate. The model, hardware version, and SN code are all printed on a single sheet of paper, allowing second-hand transactions to speak for themselves. The second is the background . Connect your computer or phone to the router, go to 192.168.31.1, and the system status page in the Common Settings will show the complete model and firmware version. What is the purpose of each menu in the 31.1 backend? I once drew a background map . The third is the miwifi.com's firmware download page. In the model selection bar from the dropdown, you can list all officially recognized models and check if a machine is produced through a legitimate source. It's better than Baidu.

a point that's often overlooked: custom phones (those starting with 'CR') display different models in the background than the retail versions. For example, the CR8809 is displayed as the CR8809 instead of the Redmi AX3000. Don't think it's a flop—this is normal. Conversely, if the sticker says CR8809 and the background shows Redmi AX3000, it means the official firmware has been flashed. Confirm whether the firmware is fully unbound before paying.

How did

Old Song end up: Budget of 100 yuan, just match the rules

back to Old Song's case. He has 300 Mbps broadband, only seven or eight mobile phones and TVs at home, and doesn't want to fuss over flashing devices. I listed three options for the hundred-yuan range, and he picked them himself:

model second-hand price who is it suitable for should you try to mess with it
CR880995 yuan want the Mijia App full suite must swipe the official version
Redmi AC210060 flashing players and those practicing their phones must flash
4A Gigabit version seventy to eighty purely for internet access, plug-and-play not required

Lao Song chose the 4A Gigabit version, which is plug-and-play and the most worry-free. Just like Uncle San's unit, I checked the SN and negotiated speed, and that's it. If your budget is two or three hundred yuan, or you have dozens of smart devices with gigabit broadband at home, there's no need to shop second-hand. Just look at the recommendation in the Xiaomi router three-tier budget article, whether it's a new phone AX3000T or BE3600 for free warranty. If you really want to buy a second-hand flashing device, I've written tutorials for both the Redmi AC2100 and 4C. AC2100 are the legendary flashing , 4C 30 yuan for practice, just follow the instructions.

finish with a sequence: first check the prefix to determine the generational connection, then check the numerical pairing speed, then verify if it's a sibling phone with the same name, and finally have the seller check the serial number for batch verification. After completing these four steps, you can basically match all the dazzling Xiaomi models on Xianyu. By the way, regardless of whether the device is old or new, first change the default password—Xiaomi phones don't have factory passwords, but the previous owner's password remains. This pitfall was written about in the about default passwords; just reset and reset them.
