How to fix IP for Xiaomi router? The printer cannot be found after the NAS restarts. 192.168.31.1 Two steps to tie to death

How to fix IP for Xiaomi router: 192.168.31.1 Bind the MAC and IP together, and the printer NAS will no longer change addresses after restarting.

Last week I went to a friend's house to get a printer. The HP M118w was still able to print after it was installed, but the computer could not be found the next day. Pinging its original address failed. I checked into the router and found that the printer's IP changed from 192.168.31.103 became 192.168.31.141 . He said that the printer would run away on its own, which made me laugh. In fact, it was because DHCP did not pay attention to it when it sent the address.

I also fell into the same trap with my Feiniu NAS at home. External network port forwarding points to 192.168.31.103 , after the NAS restarted, it changed to 141, and the port forwarding was stupidly sent to the old address. The mobile phone could not be connected outside, and the logs took a long time. This problem can be explained in just one sentence: The IP will change. Today I will explain the fixed IP of Xiaomi router thoroughly. If you follow it, the addresses of devices such as printers, NAS, and cameras that need to be connected for a long time will no longer jump around.

Speak clearly first: Why does the IP sent by the router change?

When the devices at home are connected to the router, the IP they get is not reported by themselves, but issued sequentially by the router's DHCP service. As soon as the device is disconnected and reconnected, or the lease time expires, the router will send another one. If the address in the pool is occupied by someone else, the one sent will change. I'm here to take care of the lease. What does router DHCP mean? How to understand address pool and lease? I’ve explained it before, so I won’t repeat it here. You just need to remember: By default, the address is temporary and not the account of this device.

When using mobile phones and tablets every day, no one cares if the IP changes. Anyway, just open the web page and watch the video. But the following types of equipment will not work: The printer requires the computer to find it by IP ; NAS requires port forwarding and mapping network drives ; The camera requires App to review ; The smart device gateway at home should also be used as a fixed entrance. Once they change their addresses, the print queue in the computer, the shared disk of the NAS, and the forwarding rules of the external network all point to the old IP, and they will naturally fail.

My friend's printer actually has a fixed IP recorded in the print driver. After the device was restarted and the address was changed, the computer still sent data to the old address. The result was "the printer is offline, but the machine is brightly lit." This is not because the equipment is faulty, but because the address does not match the number.

Where is the entrance to Xiaomi backstage?: In 31.1, it is called DHCP static IP. In old firmware, it may be called differently.

This function of Xiaomi router is in the background of the web page, not in the Mijia App, and cannot be found in the App. The correct posture is to connect the computer or mobile phone to the router and click on the browser 192.168.31.1 (or miwifi.com ), log in with the administrative password. What does the overall backend look like? I clicked through each column of the menu and organized it in Xiaomi router 192.168.31.1 What's going on backstage? , you can look for it according to the map when you enter it for the first time.

The Xiaomi AX3000T I have, after the firmware update, is in the "Advanced Settings", scroll down and you can see "DHCP Static IP". Click on it to see an empty list with an add in the upper right corner. I also tried it on the old Redmi AC2100 machine. The old firmware put it under "Advanced Functions" or "Network Parameters", and the name was "Static IP Binding". The location is different but it does the same thing. So if you can’t find it, don’t panic. Look through the three places of “Advanced Settings”, “Advanced Functions” and “Network Parameters” first. The words may be one of “DHCP Static IP”, “Static IP Binding” and “IP and MAC Binding”.

Before entering this page, first connect the device to be fixed to the router and let it get an address first. When the list is empty, you cannot directly bind something you have never seen before. Although you can fill in the MAC by hand, it is easy to make mistakes by hand. It is better to let the device go online before operating.

Don’t fill in the address field randomly: Look at the DHCP address pool first. Don’t stuff fixed IPs into the pool.

This is the easiest trap to step into. The default DHCP address pool of Xiaomi routers is usually 192.168.31.100 arrive 192.168.31.200 this paragraph. The address in the pool is automatically issued to "temporary users". If you fix a fixed address for the printer, 192.168.31.150 , the router may also send 150 when sending the address to the mobile phone. If the two devices collide, whoever comes first will occupy it, and the one behind will not be able to access the Internet directly.

The correct approach is to first go to "LAN Settings" to see the DHCP address pool range and select the fixed IP outside the pool. I am used to fixing the printer and NAS in the small segment, such as 192.168.31.20 , 192.168.31.30 , which is far away from the pool of 100 to 200, and far away from the router's own address of 31.1. The first three segments of the IP must be in the same network segment as the router. The last segment should be randomly selected from 1 to 254. Just don’t use 1, so don’t fight with the pool.

If the IP segment of your Xiaomi router has been changed by someone else, for example, it has been changed to 192.168.10.1 , then the fixed IP must also be written as 192.168.10.x, and you cannot hold on to 31.x. I have written about how to change this network segment and what needs to be done after the change. How to change the LAN port IP of Xiaomi router , useful when moving or when you are on the same network as optical modem.

Binding practice: Copy the MAC first, then fill in the IP, save and let the device reconnect again.

Return to the DHCP static IP page, click Add, fill in two fields: The MAC address of the device and the fixed IP you want to give it. The MAC address can be seen in the device list on the router's homepage. Clicking on the device details will display a string of characters separated by colons. ; The printer can print a self-test page with MAC printed on it. ; NAS is also available in the background network information. When copying, clearly see 0 and O, 1 and l. If you copy a wrong character, the rule will not take effect.

Take my friend's house as an example. I copied down the MAC of HP M118w and filled in the fixed IP. 192.168.31.30 ,save. Feiniu NAS filling 192.168.31.20 ,save. There is a prerequisite for the rules to take effect. The device must apply for an address from the router again. For a device that is already connected, the fastest way is to disconnect it from WiFi and then reconnect it, or simply restart the device. When it comes online, go back to the device list on the router's home page, click on it to see if its IP is the one you just filled in, and it will match.

A reminder here: The fixed IP is bound on the router side, and the device still maintains "automatic acquisition". Never go to the printer or NAS to manually fill in the IP. If you manually fill in the address on the device, it will not know how to automatically switch to another network. If you take it out on a business trip and change routers, you will not be able to access the Internet. Binding on the router side is a worry-free method. The device can get its own address wherever it goes.

There are more than 60 devices hanging under my AX3000T all year round. I never care about the addresses of mobile phones and tablets, but after fixing the NAS to 31.20, the printer to 31.30, and the camera to 31.40, the port forwarding page suddenly became clear. Which devices are worth fixing? I usually look at whether other things will come to my door.: Printers that need to be found by the computer, NAS that need to be connected to the external network, and cameras that need to be reviewed by the App. These three categories should be fixed first. ; Mobile phones and TV boxes that only allow access to the Internet will be taken automatically to avoid adding more and more rules.

Binding on the router side and manual setting on the device side, which one to use?

What I just wrote is not absolute. Both methods can let the device get a fixed IP, but I prefer binding on the router side for three reasons. First, keep DHCP on the device side automatically, and you don’t need to change it back when changing the network. ; Second, all fixed IPs are concentrated on one page, and you can see which station uses which address at a glance. ; The third is to reinstall the device and restore it to factory settings. The router rules are still there, but the address is still the same when you reconnect.

Manual IP setting on the device side is also useful. For example, if this device is not often at home and often used elsewhere, or you only want it to be fixed on a specific network, then set it on the device. However, when setting an IP manually, you have to fill in the gateway, subnet mask, and DNS yourself. If you fill in the wrong one, the network will be disconnected. It is easy for a novice to get involved. So my principle is: Anything that can be bound to the router side is bound to the router side. NAS, printers, cameras, TV boxes, and other devices that stay at home all year round, all go this way.

Telecom optical modem, Mercury Tengda, 192.168.1.1 That set of routers also has similar functions, but the location is different. I have gone through all these backgrounds and written them in How to fix IP for telecom optical modem equipment , How to fix IP for Mercury Tenda router , 192.168.1.1 How to bind a static IP to a device Here, just read whatever backstage you have.

After tying, you must review these three places, otherwise it will be like wasting your time.

Saving it after tying it is not the end, I have suffered this loss before. First check the device list to confirm that the IP it got is the one you specified. Second, check the port forwarding and share mapping of the NAS to see if the internal IP address filled in is the same as the new address. The old address needs to be changed to the new one. The port forwarding rule is the hardest I have ever stepped on.: I have been unable to connect to the external network. I thought the router was not bound properly, but the result is that the forwarding rule still points to the old IP. Third, check the printer, print a new test page on the computer, and re-add or refresh the port according to the new IP in the driver. The old port may still hold the old address.

After completing these three steps, try restarting the printer and NAS again. When they come back, the addresses should still be the same. Since my Feiniu NAS was fixed, port forwarding, external network access, and computer-mapped Z disk have never had any problems due to IP random jumps. After refreshing the driver port of my friend's printer, I could still print directly when I turned it on the next day, and it never came back to me.

If the device still cannot get the specified IP after binding, first check whether the MAC is copied correctly, and then check whether the fixed IP has fallen into the DHCP address pool. If you still can't find a solution after these two troubleshootings, delete the rule and add it again, or restore the device's network settings. In the rare cases left, the device itself has a random MAC enabled. This option is available in Android and Apple's new systems. Only by turning off the "random MAC" and binding it again can the rules be matched.

Finally, summarize the order into one sentence: First, let the device go online to get the address, then go to 31.1 Advanced Settings to find the DHCP static IP, copy the correct MAC, choose an IP outside the pool and fill it in, save it and let the device reconnect, and finally come back to see that the device list, port forwarding, and printer are all aligned. After doing this, the printer and NAS at home will no longer "run away on their own".
