Is 192.168.2.1 an optical modem or a router? I took apart the Huawei HS8145V, ZTE F7015T, and Bell RG200O-CA and checked them one by one
I helped three relatives adjust their networks, and each of them said, "My 192.168.2.1 can't get in" or "My 192.168.2.1 changed the password and can't get online." When I arrived, I found that each company's network topology was completely different: some used optical modems for direct dial, some used optical modem bridge + router dialing, and some simply merged two devices into one. The
192.168.2.1 address itself won't tell you whether you're logging in to the optical modem or the router; it depends on what devices are on the network. Today, I'll take down the three commonly used telecom models: Huawei HS8145V, ZTE F7015T, and Bell RG200O-CA, and give you a comparison table.
first clarify: how many devices does your home actually have
before entering 192.168.2.1 in the browser, first look at the line behind the butt:
- only one network cable comes out of the wall plugged into a device: either an optical modem or an "optical modem router all-in-one"
- two network cables : one plugs into device A, and the other cable connects to device B. This is the typical setup for split optical modem + router
- with three or more network cables : optical modem + router + possibly a switch or IPTV set-top box
most households use the second type: the optical modem and router are two independent devices, each with its own management backend. But! Some optical modems have been changed by carriers to "routing mode," automatically dialing up to access the internet, and you can log in directly to 192.168.2.1; Some are in bridge mode and require dialing up the router later. 192.168.2.1 is for optical modem, while 192.168.1.1 or others are the router.
So, what exactly is 192.168.2.1? there's no standard answer—it depends on your specific configuration.
Huawei HS8145V: default is the optical modem background
One of the most commonly given models for broadband installation by
Telecom, it comes in a black plastic case with the "China Telecom" logo affixed on the back. By default, 192.168.2.1 is its management backend.
Default Account and Password (Telecom Custom Version):
- Regular users:

into the regular user backend, you can see basic information such as internet account, WiFi password, number of connected devices, and internet speed. Operations like changing bridging or super passwords require super users.
HS8145V has several identifying features:

- there is a USB port (disabled in the latest firmware).

If your optical modem is HS8145V but you change the bridge, you can still log in to 192.168.2.1, but the "Internet settings" inside is empty, and all dial-ups are done on the router behind it.
ZTE F7015T: Distinguish between two versions
F7015T is the latest model ZTE has made for Telecom, smaller than HS8145V, with a pure white body. Similarly, 192.168.2.1 is by default as its background end, but you need to distinguish between the two sub-models:
- F7015T-OVE: Standard Telecom version, full network coverage
- F7015T-ZX: ZTE customized version, some regional carriers lock the Super Password

The biggest difference between
and HS8145V is that the F7015T's regular user password is randomly , different for each machine, and you are forced to change it the first time you log in. So the "default password" copied online doesn't work on it; you have to check the phone's label.
F7015T hardware features:
- body has 1 2.5G Ethernet port + 1 gigabit Ethernet port + 1 IPTV port (note the colors differ; blue means 2.5G),
- no USB port
- WiFi 6 single-band antennas built-in, and the body is slightly shorter than the HS8145V
actual use, the F7015T performs much better than the HS8145V. The 2.5G port is suitable for maxing gigabit broadband, but it generates a lot of heat, so it's best to place it in a well-ventilated area in summer.
Bell RG200O-CA: An Antique Still Used
this model was given by Jiangsu Telecom early on, from before 2017, featuring a silver metal shell and a larger size than the previous two. 192.168.2.1 is also its background by default.
Default account:
user/user(regular users, yes, it's that simple)admin/admin(super users, can switch to bridge)
Hardware features of
RG200O-CA:
- 4 100G LAN ports (note: 100Mbps, not Gigabit; currently gigabit broadband is a bottleneck),
- 1 Gigabit WAN ports (but carriers use it as a LAN and can't run gigabit at a time).
- body is heavy, metal casing cools well
- no 5G WiFi, only 2. 4G
if your home internet speed is stuck around 100Mbps and you can't pull it off, it's most likely that this old device is holding it up. Upgrade to a new optical modem or add a gigabit router behind it, and your internet speed will instantly increase.
Jiangsu Telecom users pay special attention: RG200O-CA is now mostly bridged. Logging in to 192.168.2.1 leads to the optical modem configuration page. The real dial-up and WiFi are done on the router you bought later.

How do you tell if the
logged in 192.168.2.1 is the one you think it is
the most direct method: enter 192.168.2.1 in your browser and check the login page title.
- displays "HUAWEI" or "HG": Huawei HS8145V series
- displays "ZTE" or "F7015": ZTE
- displays "BELL" or "RG": Bell
if nothing shows and it's a blank login box, it's highly likely that after changing the routing mode, the optical modem was bridged. 192.168.2.1 actually logs in to the router you connected after you (though the default address for routers is usually 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1, and encountering 192.168.2.1 is quite rare).
there's another trick: connect the computer network cable directly to the optical modem (ONT) without connecting to the router, then arp -a (Mac/Linux/Windows universal kill) to check the gateway IP, which is the device 192.168.2.1 is actually pointing to.
What if
corrected the wrong thing? One move to save it
no matter which device you're on, if you change the settings incorrectly (for example, changing the LAN port IP to 192.168.99.1), next time you won't be able to access 192.168.2.1. At this point, there are two ways to save the situation:
- reset Reset : Press and hold the reset port on the back for 10 seconds to restore all configurations, including your bridge, internet account, and WiFi name. Simple but costly, especially after resetting the custom firmware from Telecom, it may trigger remote configuration failure from the carrier. You need to call a technician to reactivate
- direct computer connection + local relocation. IP: Direct computer network cable to optical connection, manually configure the IP range to 192.168.2.x (for example, 192.168.2.100). Enter the newly changed address (192.168.99.1) in your browser to log back, then revert to 192.168.2.1
second method is 100% effective, provided you remember which address it was changed to. If you forget, you have to reset.
before changing any LAN port IP, it is strongly recommended to take a photo of the original configuration with your phone, including the LAN start address, subnet mask, and DHCP range. If it breaks, just follow the phone photo to restore it—it's done in just a few minutes.
In short, the 192.168.2.1 address is neither exclusive to the optical modem nor the router; it is the gateway address for the 192.168.2.x subnet. Which device it points to depends on your network topology. First, figure out how many devices you have, who is responsible for dialing and who is responsible for WiFi, then log into the corresponding backend to avoid changing the configuration and locking yourself out.
