How to set the scheduled restart of Telecom Optical Modem? 192.168.2.1 I flipped through the background page three times before I found it. It is assumed that 4 a.m. on Wednesday is the most stable.

Telecom optical modem scheduled restart setting diagram: 192.168.2.1 Differences between background maintenance page, 4am every Wednesday and WiFi scheduled switch

My home broadband is Telecom 200M, and the optical modem is the Huawei HS8145V5 I was given when installing the broadband. I have been using this cat for almost three years. I have no other major problems except that it gets stuck every ten days and a half in the morning.: The mobile phone is connected to WiFi, the webpage is spinning around, and you go in 192.168.2.1 At first glance, the PON light is not bright red, but the dialing is disconnected there. At first I was manually powering off and restarting, but then I got really annoyed and thought about the background restarting on a scheduled basis.

In the end, just to find this entrance, I clicked through the Huawei backend one by one. Today, it is better to explain the route, time and several pits clearly at once. If you follow it, it will be better than staring at it every day.

First, let’s distinguish between “WiFi scheduled switch” and “scheduled restart”. They are not the same thing.

The first thing I found was actually not a scheduled restart, but a WiFi scheduled switch. There is a "WiFi timer switch" in the background wireless settings, which can be set to turn off WiFi at certain points. I was happy at first, thinking it was it. Then in the middle of the night, the WiFi on the router disappeared, but the broadband light of the Optical Modem was still on, and I could still watch IPTV. Only then did I realize that it was the WiFi that was turned off, and it was not allowing the Optical Modem to reconnect to the broadband.

The difference between the two can be explained in one sentence: The WiFi timing switch only turns off the wireless signal, and the optical modem itself does not move. ; Scheduled restart means that the entire optical modem is powered off and restarted. Dial-up, PON registration, WiFi, and IPTV are all disconnected for tens of seconds, and then come back online again. If your children secretly connect to WiFi in the middle of the night, what you want is the former ; optical modem goes offline every few days, so what you want is the latter. How to set the WiFi timer switch? I'm here How to set WiFi timer switch on Telecom Tianyi gateway I wrote in the book that it was just to stop my nephew from playing on his mobile phone in the middle of the night. Today’s article only talks about restarting the entire machine, so don’t click on the wrong entry.

There is a more hidden pit: Many routers and optical modems are called "automatic cleaning" or "scheduled maintenance", and there is no word "restart" in the name. The two backends of Huawei and ZTE look completely different. The location of my friend’s ZTE F7015T is two levels of menu different from my Huawei’s.

Entrance to Huawei HS8145V5: Maintenance → Equipment Management, hidden deeper than I thought

I'll first write down the path at home. Connect the computer to optical modem WiFi or network cable, and enter the browser 192.168.2.1 , use the useradmin and password on the back of the optical modem to log in. This account is not super secret, and normal settings are enough. After entering, don't click on "Network" as soon as you get there. There are all broadband and IPTV connections there, which can be confusing.

The correct location is "Maintenance" on the left or the old interface is called "Management", click in and then look for "Device Management" or "Maintenance". Scroll down and there is an item called "Scheduled Restart". I didn't find it the first time because this page also has "Restore Default Settings", "Firmware Upgrade" and "System Log". The scheduled restart is sandwiched in the middle. The words are not big and you have to scroll down. After finding it, select the switch first, then the cycle.

On this page of Huawei, you can choose "Daily", "Weekly" and No Restart. I chose Weekly and set the time to Wednesday at 4 a.m. Why not every day, I’ll talk about it later. The time is in 24-hour format, write 04:00, don’t write 16:00. When saving, it prompts that the device will restart as planned. Click OK and you are done. There is no need to manually restart and verify.

If you log in and only see a row of big blue icons and cannot find "Maintenance", scroll to the bottom of the page. Some versions make the maintenance entrance very inconspicuous. If that doesn't work, click "Manage" in the upper right corner or on the homepage, and switch to the full menu first. When logging in via mobile phone, a simplified page is displayed, and many menus are not displayed. This is something I am concerned about. How to log in to optical modem backend using mobile phone I've tried it before. At that time, I was using my mobile phone to change WiFi, but half of the options were missing.

The position of ZTE F7015T is different. Don’t be fooled by Huawei’s pictures.

My friend's phone is a ZTE F7015T, and I went to his house to try it out once. So is his backstage 192.168.2.1 , but the menu after logging in is called "Management". After entering, it is "Device Management", then go to the right or down to find "Scheduled Restart". Compared with Huawei, the name is not much different, and the number of layers is similar, but the color and position are different. The first time I looked for it according to Huawei's picture, I still clicked the wrong one twice.

Later, I didn’t need to remember the path at all, but just the keywords.: After logging in to the backend, first look for the three groups of words "maintenance", "management" and "device management". There is a high probability of "scheduled restart" in them. The major categories of Tianyi Gateway 3.0 and 4.0 are similar, but the submenu layout will change. Don’t panic if you can’t find it. It’s not that cats don’t have this function. Some versions have moved “scheduled restart” under “System Management”.

If you can't find anything after searching, you can also check to see if there is a "one-click physical examination" or "restart" button on the backend homepage. That can only be done manually, not timing. It is true that some old models do not have scheduled restart. This kind of model can only be powered off by adding a smart socket outside, but I don’t recommend it.: Sudden power outage is not friendly to the optical modem flash memory and optical module. If you really need to use it, don't stop the power outage in the middle of the night when the firmware is being upgraded. It is best between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. By the way, if optical modem itself needs to be restarted to survive, don’t think of it as a panacea. Should the telecom optical modem be restarted regularly? I have done some calculations here, and it is true that if the phone is not turned off for a long time, it will accumulate dust and the light will fade, but the aging of the light is another matter.

Why do I set the time at 4 a.m. on Wednesday instead of midnight every day?

The first thing I wanted to do was restart at 3 a.m. every day, thinking it would be the cleanest thing to restart every day. After trying it for a week, I found two problems: First, after restarting every day, several smart cameras at home will be disconnected for more than ten seconds at the same time. Although they can be reconnected on their own, the video recording will be a little short. ; Second, there happened to be a few times when the operator cutover happened at 3 a.m., and after the modem restarted, the dialing was slow, so it was better not to restart.

Later, I changed it to 4 a.m. every Wednesday, once a week, which was enough to clear the memory and sessions of optical modem without interrupting it every day. Wednesday is the time when I have the least sense of presence. No one at home uses the Internet in the middle of the night, but cameras, NAS, and smart sockets can all survive. If there are elderly people in your family who use mobile phones at night, or someone works the night shift, the time can be changed to 4 a.m. or 5 a.m. The key is to choose a time period when no one at home is really using it.

Don’t do it during the day, especially at noon. As soon as the optical modem restarts, the whole house WiFi, IPTV, and ongoing video conferences are all disconnected. If the router is bridged behind the optical modem, you have to wait for the router to dial again. My friend set the time to 3 p.m., but he happened to catch up with his children’s online classes and was scolded by his wife. When restarting this thing regularly, the timing is more important than the setting itself.

After the modification, you need to know these three things in advance

The first thing is that friends in bridge mode cannot advance to the backend. If you changed the optical modem to a bridge before, both the optical modem and the router will 192.168.2.1 During this period, the computer often directly enters the router's background, but the page cannot be opened using the modem. In this case, first set up a network card for your computer. 192.168.2.100 Fixed IP, and then plug in the Optical Mode LAN port to access the Optical Mode backend. How to retrieve it specifically? I'm here After changing the bridge in optical modem 192.168.2.1 Can't get in I wrote in the book, don’t mistake the optical modem for evil.

The second thing is that restarting will interrupt IPTV for dozens of seconds. My home is a single-line multiplexer. IPTV and broadband use the same modem. Once the optical modem is restarted, the set-top box must be re-authenticated. Occasionally, the set-top box needs to be restarted to recover. If your IPTV has a black screen when the power goes out on the TV wall, you can set the scheduled restart only in the second half of the night, or you can leave it alone.

The third thing is, don’t expect regular restarts to cure frequent disconnections. If the optical modem breaks every now and then, large light attenuation, poor heat dissipation, and aging power supply may be the root cause. Regular restarting can only alleviate it, but not cure it. I usually check the background received optical power first, and then complain and change the modem after -28. ; Scheduled restarts are just for maintenance of normally aging machines. In this set of checking sequence, I am What should I do if the light attenuation of the telecom optical modem is large? After uninstalling it, check the one with frequent disconnections first, and then come back to set up a restart.

I arranged this set of operations in a sequence, just follow it and you're done.

If you don’t want to manually cut off the power every day, follow this order.:

  1. Log in first 192.168.2.1 , use the useradmin on the back of the cat, do not try hard with the router password.
  2. Find "Maintenance/Management→Device Management/System Management→Scheduled Restart", don't confuse it with the WiFi timer switch.
  3. Select Weekly as the period, and set the time in the early morning when no one is home, such as 04:00 on Wednesday.
  4. After saving, go back to the home page to confirm the switch status. Don't look like it is on but it is not saved.
  5. Go to the site and observe once to confirm that the router, IPTV, and camera can all come back on their own.

My Huawei HS8145V5 has not been disconnected during the morning rush hour for more than two months since it was set up at 4 a.m. on Wednesday. It doesn't matter how magical it is, it just takes the power off that I did manually and leaves it to the background to click on it. The optical modem is in good condition if it doesn't have a sense of presence at ordinary times, but it really needs to be restarted occasionally, especially when there are a bunch of smart devices hanging under the router at home.

One final word: Scheduled restarts are not "the more frequent, the better". Once a week is enough. Restarting every day will just knock your whole family's devices offline when you least expect it. Don’t set the time too late or too early. 4 a.m. to 5 a.m. is the window when I try to avoid overturning.
