How do you remove paper stuck in a printer? Forcing and tearing apart is the most frustrating thing, with three locations assigned to each other in a row

The printer is stuck in three positions: check the paper roller in the feed area, the fusing component inside the machine should cool at high temperature, and the paper output area should be pulled at a constant speed

last week at eleven o'clock at night, my child's study tour materials were still three pages away when the HP P1108 at home suddenly stopped with a click, with half the paper stuck out inside the machine. The wife was quick-handed, grabbed it, and pulled it out. Two-thirds of the paper came out, and the remaining third broke inside the machine's belly. The next day, when I turned it on, the panel still showed the paper stuck in the paper. I searched the front and back covers but couldn't find the paper.

after that day, I reviewed the cardstock from two machines at home (the Epson L3255 in ink tank and the P1108 in the laser) one by one, and finally realized one thing: jam paper is not a disease at all. The position of the paper cards is different, so the method of selecting them is completely different. Using the wrong method can turn a five-minute task into two hours.

first figure out where you're stuck, then follow two iron rules

spend ten seconds determining position before making a move—this step saves effort. Turn on the device, listen to the sound, and look at the direction the paper reveals—you can pretty much determine it almost perfectly:

What is the state of the paper
position most likely the reason
the paper feed area the paper end is stuck and not inserted, or the entire sheet remains completely still paper is crooked, double sheets stick, the paper roller slips
the inside of the machine the paper is completely invisible, or only a narrow edge is exposed stuck between the roller and fixing section, or remnants from last tears
the paper output area the paper stops moving once it comes out the paper curls and the paper roller can't hold it

Why prioritize positioning: the paper feed area is easy to take out, the inside needs to be opened or even cooled, so just pinch and pull the paper output area. Immediately flipping the machine upside down is pure wasted effort. That night, my P1108 was stuck inside, but my wife tried to pull it out from the box in the paper area, reverting the direction and causing the paper to break.

position is set, there are two iron rules before making a move.

first rule: cut off the power first, not work by unplugging it. Inside the laser machine, there is a fixing component responsible for scalding toner into the paper fibers, operating at temperatures between 180 and 200 degrees. If the paper gets stuck in that section, what you reach in and touch isn't paper, but an electric iron. After the power goes off, don't rush to open the lid; do something else. After ten minutes, come back and touch the metal part at the paper outlet. Once it's no longer hot, do it. The ink chamber machine doesn't have that to say—just cut off the power and open the lid to dry.

the second step, pull steadily along the direction of the paper. Paper moves forward in the machine. If you pull it backward from the paper inlet, the roller applies the opposite force, and the chance of the paper tearing increases several times. The correct posture is to find the end closest to the paper exit, hold both sides of the paper with both hands, not the middle, and pull slowly at a steady pace. Halfway through, I felt the resistance suddenly increase, so I stopped and tried to see if the roller was pressing down. The result of stubbornly struggling was tearing it again.

Paper jams in the paper feed area: 90% of the time it's due to paper and the paper roller

the paper stuck paper in the paper feed area is the easiest to deal with. First, pull out the entire cardboard box, pull out the paper clipped diagonally into the paper inlet, then check the three items.

check if the paper is properly loaded. Both sides of the box have cardboard boards, and many people don't push the paper properly after filling, causing the paper to tilt and get stuck halfway. The cardboard should be attached to the edge of the paper, with a gentle push that allows it to slide and resistance when pulled out.

second, check if it's a double Zhang. When the paper gets damp, it sticks. When the paper roller turns, it lifts two sheets—the first is halfway through, and the second sheet gets stuck when pushed in. Pick up the entire stack of paper, rub it open like counting coins, shake it loose, and put it back. If the paper gets damp, the edges will show waves. If you replace it directly, you won't get it back to drying.

third, look at the paper roller. After a long time, the surface of the paper roller smooths out and feels as smooth as a plastic stick. It can't grip the paper, and the paper ends stop halfway in. You can't fix this yourself, but you can confirm if it's the same machine: the same paper works fine on other machines, but this one has three out of ten cards, so it's probably the wheels are old. Search the model on Taobao and add the "paper roller"—a few yuan per pair, and if you're skillful, you can swap it yourself.

inside the machine: the most troublesome section, also the old nest in the shredding corner

the laser machine's high-risk paper jam area is inside the back cover, where the scroll and fuser components are. Once it's no longer hot, open the back cover. Once you can see the paper, pinch both sides and pull it out evenly in the direction of the paper outlet.

the real trouble is the torn paper corners. Those paper slips, two or three centimeters wide, got stuck in the roller gaps and were impossible to reach with fingers. My method is two steps: first, shine a flashlight diagonally into the barrel to see which set of rollers the paper corner is stuck; Then use tweezers to clip the corners and slowly pull them out along the direction of the roller. Tweezers are the only tool I recommend for paper jams, but before inserting tweezers, check the roller position carefully—after scratching the roller, every paper movement will be punctured.

there's another remedy that's easier than tweezers: empty the box, send a random printing task, let the roller spin once, and the shredded paper will often be taken out. I've done this twice with that Epson at home, and it worked both times.

the most infuriating thing is the ghost card—even though all the paper is removed, the panel still clings to the card. This is because the sensor is blocked by paper scraps. HP gave a method I personally tested on HP's official community: turn off the device, take out the toner cartridge, tap the left and right sides of the machine twenty or thirty times to shake out the paper debris stuck in the sensor gap, then reinstall the drum and power on. The error will disappear. That night, my P1108 was recruited by this method.

a bit of a common pitfall with old laser machines like the P1108: toner cartridge powder leakage causes the fuser to break down very quickly, causing paper jams to occur more frequently. If you need to get over a thousand compatible toner cartridges, you should pay attention to the drum core. If you notice black powder marks on the printed draft, don't worry about those 40 yuan—replace the drum quickly. The fuser is broken for over a hundred and you might not even have spare parts.

ink chamber machine paper jams are a different matter; don't fix it like a laser machine

L3255 This type of ink chamber machine has a much simpler structure, no high-temperature components, can be opened and the lid opened after power is cut off, no need to wait for cooling. Its paper jam method is also different:

the most common way to feed paper is crooked. If the paper gets crooked and stuck halfway in, it's usually because the cardboard is not tightly attached, or a foreign object has fallen into the paper inlet. At my place, the paper inlet took out the child's eraser shavings, hair, and half a supermarket receipt—all of which I casually brought in when my child stuffed paper into the paper themselves. After the power is cut off, open the cover to check the paper feed channel; just clear out any foreign objects.

Another issue is that the paper is too thin. Don't put paper under 70 grams into a home machine; that kind of paper is soft, wrinkles when pressed by the roller, and gets stuck as you fold. When buying paper, choose between 70 and 80 grams for the most reliable method.

ink chamber machine picks up cardstock like a laser machine, pulling at a constant speed in the direction but with shallow front and back covers, so most jam paper is visible when the lid is opened, making it far less accessible than with laser machines. If you really can't get it out, don't pry it open. scanning and paper feed mechanisms all have plastic clips. Prying them can break a piece, and if you send it for repair, don't just replace the case yourself.

three preventive tips that save ten times more trouble than repairs

First, manage the paper well. Place the paper in a dry place. It's best to put a whole pack of Nanfang Huinan Tian paper in a sealed bag. Before wrapping paper, shake the entire stack apart and make sure it doesn't exceed the upper limit line inside the box. Paper that waves from moisture is immediately eliminated.

Second, special paper is used according to regulations. For label paper, thick cardboard, and coated paper, first check the weight range indicated on the machine's specification page. If the paper exceeds the range, it gets stuck inside, so you need to be even more careful when removing it. If the label paper is torn off, the adhesive will stick to the roller, which is the real problem.

third, the long-abandoned machine is left empty. For printers that haven't been used for a week or two, before the first printing, have phone send a blank page run through the blank pages, then load the official materials once the scroll and channels are smooth. I stuck with this habit for a year, and both machines got stuck that year—and it was a man-made error.

sit according to the number and follow this order

the situation you encounter the position of the card first action
the paper end sticks up and doesn't go in the paper area the tissue box, shake it loose and repack, stick it tightly to the cardboard board
insert the paper until half is still when it doesn't move the paper input area to check the double sheet and paper roller
half of the paper is exposed outside the machine inside or in the paper output area power is cut off, the laser machine cools down, and the paper is drawn at a constant speed in the direction
the paper is invisible but the paper is stuck inside the machine, open the flashlight, take the toner drum and tap each side twenty to thirty times
then reclaim the cardboard paper the sensor run it empty, then tap both sides again. If it still doesn't work, send it for repair. The

order is five steps: cut off power, check the position, pull slowly in the direction of the road, walk empty-handed, and if it still shows errors, tap both sides. Remember not to pull backwards, don't burn your hands, and don't use a screwdriver to pry open. If you stick to these three, 90% of the cardstock can be finished in ten minutes.
