Why not unify them? I rummaged through the routers I had saved up at home and asked around about my friends' machines, finally figuring things out. To get straight to the point: there's no clear distinction between the two brands—either is more advanced or outdated. It's purely that the two brands have different factory habits, like how some communities have south-facing gates and others facing east—once inside, they're the same.

to clarify: both are 'house numbers,' not 'permission levels'

many people think that 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.0.1 are the "administrator address" and the "regular address," or that one is new and the other is old. None of them. Both internal network address the router is the serial number set by the router at the factory, so its functions are completely equipped—once inside, they both have the same management backend, including password changes, WiFi settings, and speed limiting.

Then why get two? Historical reasons. The entire 192.168.x.x address is reserved for intranets. How can you decide in three seconds which side should lose

the day I built the PC, I summarized three methods and ranked them by convenience:

  • first trick: check the sticker : flip to the bottom of the router and see the line labeled "Management Address" or "Login IP." Mercury stickers usually even print melogin.cn domain names, and both can be used;
  • second tip: check the gateway : After connecting your phone to WiFi, check the "Gateway" or "Router" section in the WiFi details (some Android versions call it a gateway, while on iPhone, scroll down in the WiFi details). What happens if

lose the wrong way? Most of the time, nothing happens

This is a joke I've made myself: on a 1.1 machine, I type 0.1, run through the browser for a long time, and finally say, 'I can't access this website.' Then I started to suspect the router was broken and the broadband was overdue, but actually nothing happened— the wrong address just means you can't get in, and there won't be any pop-up prompts saying 'You should enter 1.1' .

but there are two situations that can truly lead you astray. First, if you have two devices at home: the optical modem is 192.168.1.1, and the router is 192.168.0.1. What you enter into 1.1 is actually the optical modem's backend. After searching for a long time, you can't find the "WiFi settings" — many optical modems don't provide WiFi management or are deeply hidden. the second is more covert: the router has previously been modified in the network segment. For example, the previous resident changed Mercury to 192.168.1.1 to avoid conflicts with the optical modem. If you enter 0.1 according to the sticker, you can't get in. At this point, don't stubbornly resist—use the second trick above to check the real gateway. noticed, there's a useful piece of information hidden in this table: modems are mostly 1.1 or 2.1, while Mercury Tengda is 0.1—so machines from both brands don't clash when plugged under the modem, and actually save trouble. The real problem area is below the TP-Link plug-in modem. Both sides are 1.1, and the login page keeps popping up incorrectly, so you have to manually change the segment on one side. someone asked me: I have two routers at home—one 1.1 and one 0.1. I keep this messy. Can I change both to 1.1? You can change it, but I advise you to think twice. There are only three situations when changing the default network segment is truly necessary:

  • two devices at home have a connection (for example, the optical modem and router are both 1.1), they must be staggered—this is a hard requirement;

  • company intranet has fixed network segment planning, your equipment must accommodate it.

aside from these three, if you simply "look good," don't touch it. Because changing the network segment is a matter that can trigger a whole thing: after changing your current computer, your phone might immediately disconnect (and you're still trying to find a way through the old gateway), so you have to reconnect manually; Smart outlets and cameras at home all need to be re-connected to the network. Replacing the robot vacuum once can be exhausting—I've written before that smart devices only recognize 2.4G network pitfalls, and only those who try it know what that feels like. If you fix it correctly, there's no reward; if you make it wrong, your whole family goes offline—it's not worth it.

you really can't remember, take a photo of the router sticker and save it in your phone album, then create a memo and write "The home gateway is xxx." This kind of homemade method is a hundred times more reliable than modifying the network segment.
