How do I test the speed of my broadband before it is reported for repair so that someone will recognize it? The 900 you measured is not the number, the number in the business hall app is the currency.

Diagram of how to apply for broadband repair speed test and retain certificate: Business hall App half-way vs. public speed test full-way comparison, node selection instructions, repair timetable and four-step action sequence

I only figured this out after I was internally injured by a speed test screenshot. Last autumn, the broadband at home dropped to around 200 Mbps at night. I tested it three times with Speedtest, took screenshots and saved them in an album. I called for repairs, and the operator said something after listening.: You can use our business hall App to test it. I became popular at that time - I have a Gigabit package, an internationally renowned speed test tool, and a 900 Mbit screenshot. Don’t you recognize it?

As a result, the score of the business hall App is 958. The numbers are pretty good. The operator said that your network is normal and there is no fault. After hanging up the phone, I stared at the two numbers for a long time.: The same router, the same network cable, within five minutes, one 900 and one 958, which one is real?

Later, I got acquainted with the master who came to the door and read a lot of information before I thought about this matter. It's not that anyone is fooling anyone, it's The rulers on both sides are not measuring the same section of road. .

Think about one thing first: The 900 you measured and the 958 measured by the master are half the distance apart.

The broadband speed test numbers are essentially "the actual measurement of the journey from you to the speed test server." Note that it is this entire section of the road, not the broadband itself. This section of road is divided into three sections.: Your home WiFi or network cable, the access section from you to the operator's computer room, and the backbone section from the computer room to the speed measurement server. If any of the three sections is blocked, the numbers will drop, but the reason for the loss is completely different - you have to fix things at home, and the last two sections are the operator's fault.

For public speed testing tools such as Speedtest, the "servers" assigned to you are speed testing nodes deployed in the computer rooms of various companies. By default, it picks the one with the lowest delay, but it has to catch up with the automatic distribution of convulsions and point you to the node in the neighboring province. It takes hundreds of kilometers to go around. The Gigabit broadband measurement of 700 to 800 is normal, and you think there is something wrong at home.

The business hall app is different. It measures your data to the intra-provincial operator's high-speed server. The route is the shortest and has the highest priority, which is equal to the "half-way" result. This number is naturally beautiful, but it is the caliber used by the operator for its own assessment - when reporting for repair, the technician and the work order system only recognize this.

So that time "900 vs 958" is not contradictory at all: What I measured was a full marathon, and it measured the first half. If you apply for repairs with your full marathon results, the system will not be able to account for it and the work order will not be dispatched. I have a complete account of this matter. How to measure speed accurately There was also a sentence mentioned in that article - the number in the business office was kept as evidence and was not discussed at the time. This article will elaborate on it.

Tighten the screw of the node correctly, and then your numbers will be qualified to speak for themselves.

Since we know the number of business halls, can we just install one? no. It only measures half the distance. If the router at home is broken or the network cable is 100M, it will still report 958 to you - there is no part of the half-way at your home. So before reporting for repair, you have to walk on two legs. My method is fixed in three steps.

The first step is to test the business hall app first. This is the "official report card" for the work order system to see. In the second step, public tools such as Speedtest can also test, but the nodes must be manually selected.: Select the city you are in and the one with the same broadband operator as your broadband in brackets. For example, select "XX-Telecom" for Telecom broadband. The automatically assigned nodes will first take a look at their home location and replace them if they cross provinces. What is measured in this step is the overall road performance. Compare it with the number in the business office. The difference in the middle is the loss in the "world after leaving the operator". The third step is to connect the network cable directly to the LAN port of the router and test it once. Don’t use WiFi - WiFi measures the results of the wireless part. It is meaningless in the repair scenario. That account Why is Gigabit WiFi only 600? That one was calculated very carefully.

Save both numbers. If the sales hall app detects only two or three hundred, then it is really a matter of the access section or the central office, and you are very confident to report for repair. ; If it's 958 or more than 300 public facilities, 80% of the problem is at the main exit or at your home. Keep checking and don't rush to call.

Slow down and be disciplined. One timetable is better than ten screenshots.

The most taboo phrase when reporting for repairs is "It's very slow at night." The operator registered this vague description. The work order was placed in the "slow" category, and the priority was behind the disconnection. The dispatch of the order was slow, and the technician did not do any homework before coming to the door. The second time I applied for the course, I did well. I spent three days making a form before taking the speed test.

time Business Hall App Speedtest (node in the same province) Direct network cable connection
10:00 on weekdays 961 933 938
21:30 on weekdays 954 219 221
15:00 on weekends 957 486 472
22:00 on weekends 952 173 168

(Unit: Mbps, real data from my home. The first time I reported it for repair, it was only 209 for the night of Speedtest, which was like nothing was said. )

What's so good about this table? It draws the "shape of the fault". Three rules that can be read at a glance: First, the business hall App is stable at around 950 throughout the whole process, which means that the access path from me to the computer room is good. ; Secondly, the direct connection with the network cable is as bad as the WiFi, which means it is not a wireless issue. ; Thirdly, the drops occur in different time periods and become more severe as the peak hours are reached. This is a typical pattern of congestion at the area exits during the evening peak hours. When the operator saw this table, she directly reassigned the work order from "Slow" to "Congestion Verification", and also left a message, "The table is standardized" - her exact words.

There are three rules for making watches. Measuring at the same location, don’t stand in the living room today and stand in the study room tomorrow ; The median is taken three times for each test, and the single number is not counted. When the speed test server is busy, the difference in the same session can be 30 to 40 Mbps. ; The time period must cover "good times" and "bad times". Just having the bad half cannot prove that the problem changes over time. If there is only a table with evening peak data, the master will only reply to you: "This is the case during evening peak hours."

On the day the master comes to your door, check his appearance and your app separately.

The master came with an optical power meter. That thing measured another account.: How much dBm does the optical signal lose from the computer room to your home? Your app can’t measure any of this account. So don’t take a screenshot of your cell phone’s speed test and yell at the master. You can’t help him with what he should see, and he won’t ask if you should have prepared it in advance - but if you prepare it, things will get done twice as fast.

Prepare both in advance. The first thing is to copy down the light attenuation reading in the backend of optical modem.: Browser 192.168.1.1 For telecommunications equipment, generally look for the line "Optical Power" or "Received Optical Power" on the "Status" or "Network" page. If the number is negative, it is healthy within -27. If it exceeds -28, you should be wary. The meaning and classification of this number are as follows: light decay The complete table is written in that article, just read it accordingly. You should copy it down first, and the master will use an instrument to measure it and compare it. If it is a problem with the line or the spectrometer, he can tell on the spot.

Second, write down the work order number on the repair phone number. This is the number that the master comes to verify. Subsequent reminders, rework, and free processing if the same fault breaks out within 30 days all depend on it. How to go about the process and how to say it? Repair process That article was written in more detail, so I won’t repeat it here.

There is another action worth doing that day: After the repair is done by the master, don't be in a hurry to sign. Use the business hall app to test it on the spot, and then retest it using the "bad time" conditions of your time table - for example, he came to repair it during the evening rush hour, and then test it on the spot during the evening rush hour. Only when the number comes back can it be considered truly repaired. My first report for repair was that I signed the order too quickly, and it dropped back to 200MB that night. The second work order was queued for another day and a half.

After the repair is completed, save the data as a file and save half the time when reporting for repair next time.

There is a folder in my computer now, called "Broadband Files", and there are three things in it: Photos of the contract page for installing broadband (package and speed are written in black and white), work order numbers and results of each repair report, and screenshots of the baseline speed test of the home network during normal periods. I don't find it useful at ordinary times, but it really saves trouble when something goes wrong.

Benchmark speed test screenshots are especially valuable. When the home network is normal, pick a weekday morning and test the business hall App and Speedtest once each and save them. If you feel the network is slow someday in the future, retest it first and then compare it with the benchmark.: If 20% of the damage is caused by the equipment at home, if 80% of the damage is lost, please report it for repair. This step can prevent most of the "fake faults" - my mother-in-law called me that time that the network was down. I dug out a pair of benchmarks. It was her grandson who was playing 4K live broadcast in the living room. The uplink was eaten up. Every package downloaded had to wait for confirmation of the uplink receipt. I also suffered from this when I was working from home. The uplink was robbed and the downlink collapsed. The account was in Speed test There is an algorithm in that article.

Just to add another point where people can easily be wronged: 2000M, 1000M, and 500M broadband have different "standard" lines. The measured Gigabit Cable line is around 930, which is full health. Don’t chase after 990. ; There are many 2000M gateways. The optical modem network port, network cable level, and computer network card are blocked one by one. My computer measured 943 MB from 2000M. After going around and around, I found out that it is a matter of network port specifications. The troubleshooting records of the four gateways are in 2000M speed test In that article. If you take a screenshot of 940 and report "Gigabit is not up to standard", the master will only think that you are making things difficult for him.

The ending nails the sequence: Do a self-examination first, then keep the certificate and then make a phone call.

The whole process runs smoothly in just three sentences. Before making a call, connect the network cable directly to the router and test it first, and clean up the problems at home - the optical modem network port is plugged in incorrectly, the network cable is 100Mbps, and the router port is 100Mbps, etc. Four places to steal internet speeds That article has been arranged one by one, and they are all free actions. Then spend three days making a timetable, and add public tools to the business hall app to cover both good and bad time periods. Make a call, report the package rate, report the timetable pattern, and get the work order number. The master will prepare the light attenuation reading and benchmark screenshot before coming to the door.

If the order is reversed, the work will be in vain.: The first time I reported for repair, I took a screenshot as soon as I had it in my hand. The work order was stuck on the "User side is normal" and I waited for two days without anyone taking care of it. The second time the meter was handed in, the order was dispatched on the same day. On the third day, the master came to the door with the meter and found out that a port on the corridor spectrometer was oxidized. It took ten minutes to replace it. Before leaving, he told me the truth.: I took a screenshot of your table and sent it to the backend. We are willing to take this kind of work order. You will know where to check at a glance.

When it comes to speed testing, the numbers themselves are not valuable; what is valuable is the origin and pattern of the numbers. Only by explaining the origin clearly and drawing out the rules can you report for repairs in one go.
