many people get stuck at the first step because they don't know the password. After installing a telecom broadband set, at home there are at least three passwords; correcting one wrong set is a waste of effort:

way to judge is simple: if the name you connect to in your phone's WiFi list starts with ChinaNet, change it to the optical modem; If you gave it your own name, it's most likely sent by the router. Follow the general process change WiFi password router, so don't mess around with the optical modem.

flip the optical modem over (some are placed on the side or bottom), and find the three lines "Default terminal configuration address," "default terminal account configuration," and "default terminal configuration password." Most addresses are 192.168.2.1, but some are 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.1:8080, based on the sticker. The account is usually useradmin, and the password is the string of letters and numbers on the sticker, which is different for every machine.

Why switch to WiFi without a super controller? Because WiFi switches, names, and passwords are set by users, carriers default to regular accounts. Comparing the other two pitfalls I've encountered before, it's clear: modifying the optical modem's DNS and port mapping , the useradmin is always gray and you have to telecom admin. there are exceptions. In some provinces, firmware has heavily reduced useradmin; when you log in, the WiFi section is completely gray and unreadable. In such cases, you have to follow the super admin route. The method is simple: first try useradmin, then click and modify while it's hot, and give up if it's gray.

After logging into the backend, the menu names differ for each model. My family, my mother-in-law's house, and the neighbors made it together, and together we have the three most common models:

After entering the

, just recognize two places: the SSID name, which is the WiFi name; WPA pre-shared keys, some interfaces call it a wireless network key or simply write a password—this is the real password. Name and password on the same page; change them all at once. Don't save half and then find the second place.

there are some important considerations for naming them. The string at the end of ChinaNet is the optical modem number. Changing it to your own name is fine, but don't use the Chinese name—old printers and laptops won't find it. 2.4G and 5G are recommended to distinguish by adding a 5G suffix after the name. the password itself, starting at 8 digits, mixing letters and numbers, don't use your phone number, birthday, or house number. Just keep the WPA2-PSK encryption method as default, no need to change it.

there's another detail that's easy to miss: for dual-band integrated machines, the passwords for both 2.4G and 5G entries must be exactly the same. The first time I helped my neighbor change it, I only changed the 2.4G entry. The 5G password was still the old password. But his phone was working fine in the living room, but when I went to the bedroom and it automatically switched to 5G, a pop-up asked for the password. He thought I had broken the network. The two entries can have different names, but the password must be the same so that devices can switch between frequency bands without notice.

What happens at the moment

one more thing to remind you of is something that's often overlooked: changing the password protects neighbors, but it can't prevent poor family members. If someone has a WiFi master key on their phone, once they connect to your new WiFi, the new password might be automatically shared, effectively making the change unnecessary. If you install this device, either uninstall it or turn off "Auto-share connected hotspot" in its settings, or you might miss it again after you modify it.
