Before
start: where you place the secondary router is more important than how you set it up
My cousin's first reaction was to plug the secondary router directly into the study—anyway, the signal in the study was bad. This is the most common mistake. The study only has a -74 signal, and the secondary router is there. The return link between it and the main router is also this weak link. Data packets are repeatedly retransmitted, so not only is the study unable to get up, but even the main router in the living room gets delayed.
The correct arrangement is to place it in the center: the secondary router should be placed in a spot where the main router signal still has two or three slots and can still cover the target room. In my home, the outlet in the middle of the corridor is the most suitable—the return signal is -58, and the phone in the study can receive -54, both ends are sufficient. After setting up the study, the internet speed in the study went from 20~40MB to over 90MB, and the living room was not affected at all.

Six Steps to Complete: The Guide Is Easier Than You Think

the first step, connect your phone to the secondary router's WiFi, and the name and initial password are on the sticker on the back of the device. Step two, enter melogin.cn or 192.168.0.1 in the browser's address bar to access the secondary router backend.
the third step, find the "App Management" menu, where you'll find "Wireless Bridging," and click "Start Setup." Older firmware might be available in the WDS option in "Wireless Settings" with a quick scan of the "Wireless Settings" section.
Step 4: Wait for it to scan the surrounding signals, and select the 5G signal from your main router in the list. Don't choose the wrong name; it's not unusual for neighbors in the building to have the same name. If the main router is too far away, choosing 2.4G backhaul is more stable, but the speed will be even lower.
Step 5: Enter the WiFi password for the main router, then assign the secondary router's WiFi name and password. At this step, the guide will ask if you want to share the same name as the main router—there's some trick to this point, which I'll discuss separately below.
Step 6: Save, and the machine will automatically restart. After restarting, move it to the corridor socket, plug it in, and it's done.

Change 1: 192.168.0.1 can't get in. The first time I set it up, I panicked, thinking the secondary router had been broken. Actually, in bridge mode, the secondary router's DHCP is turned off, and you get the address from the main router. If you enter 192.168.0.1, it will show the main router's page (if both are Mercury and look exactly the same). If you want to access the secondary router backend, go to the main router's "Device Management" list and find it. Check the new IP it obtains; just enter that IP to enter. Change 2: Halve the speed, as mentioned above. In actual tests, the study room phone has wireless 90~110 Mbps, the desktop router with a secondary router cable can reach around 140 Mbps—the return trip negotiates around 867 Mbps, and the actual throughput is about that number. Don't expect to run the full 300 Mbps package. There are even older machines, like the MAC1200R, where the LAN port is 100Mbps, and after bridging, it's just over 90Mbps. Change 3: Wired Cable Profits for Free. In bridging mode, the LAN port on the secondary router becomes a switch port. The desktop and printer in the study are directly plugged into the secondary router via network cable for wireless backhaul internet access. This means the study has three or four extra cable ports at once, which is where bridges are more practical than signal amplifiers.
Should the
WiFi name match the main router: Don't choose this step randomly in the guide
the fifth step question, many people casually chose "same as the main router." Same name and password, nominally 'roaming'—the phone connects wherever it goes. But this was fake roaming—the two routers had no roaming cooperation, the phone stuck to weak signals, and even when you reached the study door, the phone was still stuck on the main router signal bar in the living room, making it even lagier.

For example, the main router is called wangjia, the secondary router wangjia-2. You know which one you connect to, and if something goes wrong, you can easily check which one is having trouble. If you want the effect of "automatically connecting wherever you go" and can accept switching a bit slowly, then choose the same name. Real roaming relies on collaboration protocols like 802.11kvr, which is done by Mesh from the same brand.
