What does the red light keep flashing when the optical modem LOS means? Facing PON lights, you can check in five steps and 90% of the time, without waiting for the technician to arrive

last Friday night, the whole family was binge-watching dramas, the screen froze and spinning. When I turned around, I saw the light modem flashing with a red light on LOS. My first reaction was that the router was down. I restarted three times—all for nothing. That red light didn't even bother with the router's attitude; the problem was with the yellow wire at the entrance. first recognize the lights: there are only two real lights on the optical modem panel
ONT panel has at least four or six lights: power, PON, LOS, LAN, WiFi, and some even have a voice light. Different brands have different layouts. The default shows LOS is normal and PON stays on, but I just can't get online—that's because authentication has been suspended, but topping up phone can fix it. The flashing red light is the physical layer's fault; no light comes in, no matter how much you charge, it won't light up. My neighbor topped up 100 yuan on the first night, and the next day he had to contact me.
has a clever trick to check the lights: take a photo of the panel with your phone and zoom in, making the red and green flashes clear at a glance. Some models have very small LED beads, and the optical modem is stuffed into the weak current box. You can't even count how many LEDs are flashing through the door crack, making photography the most stable. Recognize the light before starting your move, so you won't go off course.
LOS the red light is on, do three small things first before talking about repairs
the first piece, trace the yellow skin line along the edge. Fiber optic bends are the worst of all. If the bending radius must be 5 centimeters upward, it gets pinned down by sofa legs, cable troughs bent to right angles, or squeezed through door cracks, causing light degradation to swell sharply. That time, the TV cabinet was moved by half a meter, and the leather cable pressed a hidden crease under the cabinet base. After smoothing it out, it was fixed that night. the second item, reinsert the fiber optic plug. The yellow thread on the back of the optical modem has a small blue square tip. Pinch it, pull it out, then plug it back in. Only when you hear a click does it count as correct. The cleaning was loosened by half a space, so you can't even see it with the naked eye. I helped the second neighbor check this—it took ten seconds. Besides indentations, there are two ways to damage leather thread: if the thread runs from the door seam and gets crushed by the door, that bend means it's dead; The wall holes in the old residential community were gnawed by rats; the outer skin looked intact, but the core wire was broken. If you can't fix these two types yourself, just recognize them and go straight into the repair process—don't waste time.
the third item: wipe your head and restart. If the joint surface gets dirty, light degradation will cause a sharp drop. Mix anhydrous alcohol with a dust-free stick and gently wipe in one direction. Don't rub it with a tissue, as the paper fibers will scratch the end face. After finishing, unplug the optical modem and wait one minute before plugging it in.

these three situations, don't panic—just wait and see
First, after a power outage or power outage. Re-powering on the optical modem requires re-registration. PON flashing slowly for 1 to 3 minutes is a normal process, sometimes just tens of seconds. Last time my home lost power, the PON flashed for about two minutes before staying lit, and LOS flashed red a few times during that time. Don't pick up your phone as soon as you see a red light. if it's still flashing for more than five minutes, that's what to say.
second, after resuming factory service. The night I accidentally pressed reset, I remembered it forever: LOS flashed first, PON flashed afterward, PON stayed on, and the three-stage signal was ITMS reassembling the device. third, break for a few minutes in the middle of the night and then feel better on its own. Most of the time, it's carrier cut-and-file or ITMS issuing configurations in the early morning, with a high frequency between 2 and 5 a.m., and it might even push your changes back in the middle of the night. self-inspection isn't endless tinkering; if any of the three lines come into contact with it, you stop:
- three small tasks are done, and the red light stays on for ten minutes;
- received optical power at -30 Hz;
- PON the red light stays on—that's because the SN isn't bound or the data center has fallen off. No matter how much you try at home, it's useless—you have to have the data center refresh the port data.
repair requests, there's a trick: don't just say 'slow internet speed'—customer service will treat it as a software malfunction and start arguing back and forth. They simply said, "The optical modem LOS red light is flashing, the backend receives optical power -31." The dispatcher immediately knew it was an optical path issue, and immediately sent a technician with an optical power meter and a fiber melting machine, usually arriving within 24 hours. technicians usually do three things when they visit: segmented metering, checking corridor splitters, and remelting cold joints. Aging cold joints are a common problem in old residential communities; replacing the weld joint can save five or six dB. If the optical modem module breaks, you don't have to pay. LAN light not working: first check whether both ends of the network cable are securely plugged in; oxidation of the crystal connector is also common; The light is on but the speed is only 100 Mbps, so it's probably plugged into the 100 Mbps port. WiFi light not working: not necessarily broken; most likely WiFi is turned off—either the background app is off or the phone app is off. Later, I simply turned off the optical modem and WiFi entirely, and the signal throughout the house became much clearer (see this article on how to turn it off) .
Power light not working: Check the adapter. The optical modem is usually a 12V 1A DC connector. If the plug is loose, the adapter is too hot to touch, or the light is half-lit and not working—these are all its issues. Don't fool with a 5V phone charger—if the voltage isn't high enough and won't light up, you'll think the cat is dead and worry for nothing. I keep a 12V 1A spare part in my drawer, which can handle the emergency with the modem and router, costing less than thirty yuan.
model differences remind you: some batches combine PON and LOS into a single dual-color light, such as some versions of the TEWA-750G, where the red light flashes and green is just distinguished, and the logic remains unchanged.
